Biography Born in Erie, Pennsylvania, in 1927, Roy Ahlgren received his B.S. in Art Education from the University of Pittsburgh. He has worked as an artist-illustrator for the Marx Toy Company and retired after teaching commercial art and printmaking for twenty years in the Erie School District. Ahlgren currently paints full time in his studio in Harborcreek, PA.
Ahlgren has produced over one hundred eighty-five limited editions of serigraphs over a 20-year period from 1968 until 1988. These works are in the permanent collections of numerous art centers, museums, colleges and individuals. He has exhibited in over one hundred juried shows nationally and internationally. His listings include "Who's Who In International Art", 1986. His work has also has been shown in many invitational exhibits, nationally and internationally.
Ahlgren has returned to painting and now works exclusively with acrylics on canvas. Many of his works are of architectural subjects, landscapes and golf courses. In his art, Ahlgren defines composition using chiaroscuro or strong use of light and dark. His goal is to find unique ways of portraying ordinary everyday subjects.
