Mary Hamilton

Background
Mary Hamilton was born in Arvilla, Pleasants County, West Virginia. Mary began her art career in the spring of 1980 at age 32 in the Pittsburgh area, she majored in the arts at the Community College of Allegheny County. Mary relocated to the Erie area in 1987 and exhibits her work on a continuing basis in the local galleries. Mary is a member of the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society; the Pennsylvania Water Society; The Northwestern Pennsylvsania Atist’s Association; and the Presque Isle Artist’s Association. Her works are in both private and public collections, including Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh; St. Vincent Hospital; Metro Health Center; Erie Insurance Exchange; Eriez Magnetics; Lord Corporation; and Marquette Savings Bank. Eat ’N Park restaurants has purchased 117 pieces of Hamilton’s works for their restaurants through the tri-state area (West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Ohio). Mary participates in many invitationals and shows, she has won numerous awards over the years. She was the 1993 featured artist for Erie’s public TV station’s WQLN Annual Auction raising funds with the print sales of her the Nature Center at Asbury Woods. In 1996, Mary was the featured artist for the Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Annual Art Lottery. Held each year in the Bel Aire Hotel. In the fall of ‘2000’, Mary was one of the featured artists in the ‘Presque Isle Book’. Her latest project was spring (2001) Gofish! Erie Project. ‘Gofish!’ is a public art extravaganza to promote community pride in Erie. Her ‘Gofish!’ project was in place for all of ‘Summer 2001’, and is sponsored by GPU Energy of Northwestern Pennsylvania. Her Fish (Beachin) is on display at the Penelec Office in Erie. The proceeds were donated to Gannon University’s Scholarship fund and the Erie Public Art Endowment Fund. Mary had a one-person exhibition at the Schuster Art Gallery of Gannon University running through the spring of 2001. 71 pieces of past and present work were featured. Mary conducts workshops, classes, and art instruction on an individual basis. She enjoys great support in her art career from both her husband and son, and the community.
